When we work with learners for just one academic year, it can hide the fact that the goals many are working towards will take years, even decades to reach. Despite what marketers would have us belief, language learning is very much a marathon, not a sprint. And even if the marathon is punctuated with moments of fun and joy (hangman, anyone?!), it’s still a marathon.
